Russula Provides Rolling Mill Concept Training to Gerdau Group´s Future Managers

The South American division of the Russula Group, administered a rolling mill concepts training to 60 trainee engineers within the Global Gerdau Group in October and November 2008. The training objective was to prepare these professionals for their future management positions within the Group's plants worldwide.

The Rolling Mill Concepts training was divided into two parts, basic and advanced. The basic module addressed technical issues related to the process technology for long product production for profile, bar and rod mills including:
• "R" or Reduction Factor concept
• Automatic loop control
• Automatic tension control
• Shear cut control
• Breaking slide & Rake control
• Laying head pinch roll control for coil formation
• Rolling recipe concepts and Pass schedule

Modules in advanced topics focused on maintenance and process improvements as follows:

Control Blocks
• Control block operation
• Application
• Location in CPUs
• Required hardware

Required Parameterization
• Parameters available to maintenance
• Parameters implementation
• Mode of amendment
• Automatic tension control
• Automatic loop control
• Main signals to be monitored

The results were so successful that the Rolling Mill Concepts Training was added to the Gerdau Group´s formal Training Courses, and is scheduled to repeat within other Gerdau plants in the next few months.
