Water treatment plant

Russula has developed a new water treatment plant design for continuous casters and rolling mill processes for long and flat steel production. Based on our knowledge of the steel process, the new design uses a combination of decanters and ring filters, which guarantees a superior water quality compared to traditional designs. A superior water quality extends the life of the rolling mill equipment and prevents corrosion build-up in the continuous casting water spray nozzles.

The objective of the water treatment plant is to eliminate the scale and oil/grease from the water that comes in contact with the steel manufacturing and reduce the water temperature. The contact water circuit follows a 4 step process:

• Step 1: Scale pit removes large scale particles
• Step 2: Decanting basins eliminate fine scale and oil/grease
• Step 3: Ring filters guarantee fine scale and oil/grease does not return to the process
• Step 4: Cooling towers reduce water temperature

Russula supplies the complete Turn-key water treatment plant in a compact layout that is easy to maintain and efficiently uses space: especially critical for new steel plant installations that are space constrained. Compared to traditional water treatment plant designs, the new design eliminates the disposal of wastes and reduces the chemical flocculants used to combine the suspended fine particles.
