  • Gerdau Petersburg furnace drives upgrade

Gerdau Petersburg awarded Russula two contracts to upgrade areas in the structural steel plant. The purpose of the upgrade is to replace legacy electrical equipment with modern units that will improve performance and spare parts availability.

The Multidrive 400 that controls the motors from the cooling bed to the cold shear will be replaced with the modern ABB ACS880 series along with the drive that controls one of the motors for the fixed cold saw. Russula will supply the drives, engineering, testing and on-site services such as installation supervision, commissioning and production support. Commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.

ABOUT GERDAU PETERSBURG
Located in Virginia, USA, the Gerdau Petersburg plant is a recycled scrap steel mill that specializes in the production of structural steels including Wide Flange Beams, H-Piling, and PZC Sheet Piling. Together the meltshop and hot rolling mill produce 1 MT per year.
