For over two decades, Russula has been a key partner for the Brazilian steel industry, delivering cutting-edge solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability. In recent months, we have strengthened our collaboration with Gerdau Brazil, working across multiple plants to optimize their processes and elevate performance to the next level.
Açonorte, Charqueadas, Riograndense, Cosigua, and São Paulo are some of the facilities where we have recently executed projects, including major upgrades to rolling mills and enhancements in plant management processes through Mill Pulse and Computer Vision solutions aimed at increasing both productivity and safety.
Gerdau Riograndense
- Upgrade of Rolling Mill 2 drives and the automatic ignition system in the reheating furnace.
- These upgrades will enhance plant efficiency and safety, streamlining both operation and maintenance.
Gerdau Cosigua
- Upgrade of the plant's flagship rolling mill, replacing control equipment and drives, from the reheating furnace movements to the hook discharge at the reforming station. In a second phase, the furnace combustion system and hook discharge will be modernized.
- Implementation of Computer Vision to optimize the shearing cuts in the rolling mill.
- These improvements will enhance plant efficiency, and the Artificial Vision system will enable automatic measurement and adjustment of the shearing cuts, reducing metal losses.
Gerdau Charqueadas
- Electrical and automation upgrade of Rolling Mill 2, replacing control equipment and drives.
- These improvements will modernize the rolling mill at Charqueadas, enhancing its performance and efficiency.
- Mill Pulse implementation for more efficient production management, plant tracking, raw material optimization, and report generation.
- Furnace upgrade to improve performance and energy efficiency.
- With these upgrades, Charqueadas will increase efficiency and productivity while investing in better plant management with the support of Mill Pulse.
Gerdau Açonorte
- After completing the basic engineering of the rolling mill, Gerdau has entrusted Russula with carrying out the electrical and automation revamp, including drives, remote I/Os, PLCs, and HMI.
- These upgrades will enable Açonorte to modernize its rolling mill, enhancing its performance and efficiency.
Gerdau São Paulo
- Computer Vision project to analyze shear cuts and provide real-time feedback to the PLC.
- This solution will minimize material waste, optimize rolling mill efficiency, and reduce the plant's environmental footprint.
