Nucor Steel South Carolina has granted Russula a contract to replace the drives of bar mill no. 2. The plant is located in Darlington, SC, USA. Russula won the contract in January, 2017. Russula will provide the engineering, electrical equipment and on-site services such as installation, supervision and commissioning.
The existing SD3000 rolling mill stand drives are installed in line-ups consisting of a drive and an AC incoming circuit breaker. The objective of the upgrade is to replace the existing power and controls of the drives and AC breakers. Each drive will be replaced with the ABB DCS800 series, installed in cabinets and integrated into the control system via ethernet.
A seven day commissioning downtime is forseen. The thirteen drives will be pre-installed along side the existing drives to flawlessly switch over to the new drives during the commissioning period.
