Russula improves Liberty Steel’s wire rod mill

As part of the Mill Pulse® suite order, Liberty Steel & Wire has contracted Russula to upgrade the two-strand wire plant located in Peoria, IL, USA. The goal is to upgrade the existing control system and units that have become obsolete and costly to maintain.
The upgraded areas will be controlled by state-of-the-art Siemens Simatic S7-1500 Series hardware and the Wonderware Intouch interface, which will improve performance, facilitate training, spare parts, and information gathering and reporting throughout the plant. Russula will supply pre-tested Sinamics drives that will be supplied mounted in a new line of cabinets to minimize on-site wiring and installation. The unit's power distribution will be reused. An existing Wonderware InTouch HMI station will be integrated into the new Siemens Simatic S7-1500 automation system. New screens will be designed for operation and monitoring of the rod exit area. Russula will also supply a new control table designed for comfort and optimal workflow. Commissioning of all systems is scheduled for 2023.
