This paper presents how to apply virtualization to steel plants in order to obtain the benefits it can offer. Two case studies will be examined that implement virtualization in two different rolling mill platforms.
Virtualization provides many benefits: greater flexibility and efficiency in CPU utilization, less power consumption and hardware procurement, better obsolescence management, more availability, easier configuration of backup and testing systems, and improved data recovery. This paper presents how to apply virtualization to steel plants in order to obtain the benefits it can offer. Two case studies will be examined that implement virtualization in two different rolling mill platforms. A brief overview of virtualization, its benefits and disadvantages will also be discussed.
