Nucor Steel upgrades bar mill drives
The Nucor Steel plant in Jewett, Texas, together with Russula, upgraded the drives for the TX #1 bar mill. SD3000 type drives were replaced with ABB DCS880 drives for twelve stands.
Russula provided hardware and software engineering, drive integration into the existing control system, supervision installation and commissioning support. The new drives were supplied installed in cabinets and integrated in the control system using Ethernet IP. The startup took place as scheduled in June, 2020.
Over the past eight years, Nucor Steel Jewett and Russula have collaborated on a series of drive and automation improvements for both bar mills. Between 2013-2015, major revamps were undertaken on the two mills to replace obsolete control equipment.
