High speed data acquisiton system with video implementation

Gerdau is one of the leading companies in the long steel in the Americas and a leading supplier of specialty steel in the world. It started to expand its operations more than a century ago and now has an industrial presence in 14 countries. Pindamonhangaba plant is located in a city 125 kilometers northeast of the Sao Paulo and produces rolled steel products.

Scope

Gerdau’s overall objective with this project was to provide more resources for analysis and process visualization for operation and maintenance teams, following the trend of other steel plants all over the world. To achieve this, Russula  implemented the latest technology in fast signal data acquisition systems.

Technology

Besides acquiring online data at process speeds up to 1 ms, the new system also receives images from CCTV cameras installed at critical points of the process and synchronizes the image and signals generated in real time, with the process control system.  All process information and images that are necessary for process analysis and failure analysis are available on the IBA PDA server.

Results

With IBA Capture CAM software and IBA PDA, the operators had an overview of the entire production line. This reduced the troubleshooting time by allowing production to respond to and resolve problems quickly. IBA Capture CAM combined with IBA PDA is a powerful tool for technical users.
