Following the successful implementation of a two-phase electrical and automation upgrade of the bar and wire rod mill, Nucor Steel in Norforlk, NE has upgraded the Kocks Block. The electrical upgrade consisted of replacing the existing Siemens Simovert drives with an ABB regenerative multidrive solution.
Russula supplied a new AC multidrive, engineering, drive integration into the existing automation system, installation advisement, commissioning support and onsite training. The new drive was installed and started up in the fall of 2019. The Kocks Block upgrade was part of a multi-phase revamp project, which occurred over a period of 4 years. These electrical and automation upgrades have helped the Nucor Norfolk plant leverage the latest control technology to produce excellent quality bars and tightly wound, straight-sided coils.
