Russula supplied a complete modernization of the electrical equipment and the control system for the two strand wire rod mill at ArcelorMittal Monlevade, in João Monlevade, Brazil. The scope of supply consisted of electrical and controls equipment, consulting, engineering, installation, start-up and training.
Following a construction time of only 20 days Russula succeeded in starting-up the plant on the planned date. This was accomplished by following a strict project planning during the installation, testing and start-up. The electrical equipment was pre-tested before the start-up to ensure that any failures were foreseen and corrected.
The combination of the new Siemens PLCs with the ABB drives steadily increased the production rate by 22% when the mill reached 90% of its full capacity. The impact of Russula's work reflected on the performance of the rolling mill, not only during the start-up month, but in the sustained operations of the rolling mill life.
