The Gerdau combined bar and wire rod mill in Charqueadas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has successfully returned to operations after the upgrade of the automation and drives. The commissioning was performed in 11 days during a programmed shutdown in March, 2020.

This order follows a series of mechanical equipment supply, pass design, mill optimization and operational support projects that Cascade Steel and Russula have collaborated on over the years.

Gerdau upgraded the reheat furnace drives of its structural steel mill, located in Petersburg, Virginia, USA. The purpose of the upgrade was to replace obsolete equipment with modern AC drives that removed bottlenecks and improved plant performance.
